WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?

Mochi Mooncake is a scent inspired by snow-skin mooncake, enjoyed during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The scent draws directly from the traditional recipe for Vietnamese bánh dẻo, beginning with glutinous rice flour blended with pomelo blossom water to create the soft, chewy texture of mochi. A touch of bột nếp chín (roasted glutinous rice flour) adds a subtle toasted glow and a hint of Maillard-like savoriness, reminiscent of the baked mooncakes I grew up with.

At the heart is my favorite combination of mooncake fillings: taro, red bean, salted egg, and lotus seed. Together, they create a starchy, nutty, subtly umami impression against the delicate sweetness of rice.

Benzoin and coconut milk round the composition with a gentle sweetness, bringing warmth and richness to the scent like an autumn festival at night.
